PRIMARY/FIRST CONSIDERATIONS
Range HOW FAR OR HOW CLOSE
DEFINITION:
The distance between you and the opponent
EXAMPLES:
Projectile weapons range, non projectile weapons range, kicking range, punching range, clinching range, ground grappling range
In close the range would dictate short shots like knees, hooks, uppercuts, & elbows, while at long range it is more practical to use kicks
Angle OVER ON THIS SIDE OR ON THAT SIDE OVER HERE OR OVER THERE, OR MAYBE EVEN ABOVE YOU
DEFINITION:
Angle relative to opponent/target, from directly in front going off to the sides, and behind
EXAMPLES:
Circling the opponent to get away from their power side, and cutting of angles for their attack
Circling away from a attacker to put a car, wall, or someone else between me and them
Level UP TOP, DOWN BELOW, OR IN THE MIDDLE
DEFINITION:
High, Medium and Low on the opponent/target
EXAMPLES:
Attacking or defending either the head, the body, or the legs
Being grabbed or tackled either at the legs, the hips or having someone grab your head
SECONDARY CONSIDERATIONS
Mechanics (of the techniques I know) HOW DO I DO IT
DEFINITION:
Basic structure/body mechanics of a given technique, and how it can change when one of the four other variables change
EXAMPLES:
Stepping in on the jab if the opponent is at a greater distance, & just firing the jab if the opponent is closer
Which foot first, and how to make it as effective as possible weather it be offensively attacking or defensively countering
Timing WHEN TO DO IT, HOW FAST OR SLOW TO DO IT
DEFINITION:
The reaction time necessary to use a effective/landing technique
EXAMPLES:
Being able to parry a jab as you see it move toward you
To soon and you waste the opportunity, to late and who knows what’ll happen (This is the hardest thing to learn, and requires the most from the mental part of training while still testing overall conditioning with the persons reaction time) |
